Erikson TEC and ALSC Media Literacy Project

Background

The TEC Center at Erikson Institute in partnership with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), and the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) conducted two national forum meetings with funding from a grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). In these forum meetings consisted of guided conversations about media literacy in early childhood with experts and practitioners. The purpose of the project was to develop materials to support the understanding and teaching of media literacy in early childhood. This report is a direct result of the support provided by IMLS and the lessons learned through these two national forum meetings held in 2019.

The intention of the Media Literacy in Early Childhood Report is to support and encourage the media literacy work being done by practitioners working with young children.
